Saitama:Satte City Café&Sweets Pottering by Rental Bicycle and Road Bike

We visited cafés and sweets in Satte city in Saitama prefecture, famous for its cherry blossoms.
We enjoyed the spring breeze on our road bike and rented bike as we slowly rode about 10km.

Rent a Bicycle in front of Tobu Railway Satte Station

Bicycles can be rented at Igusa Bicycle Depository, located about a one-minute walk from the east exit of Tobu Railway’s Satte Station.

You can rent a bike from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for 400 yen per bike.

The rental bicycles are also equipped with gears.

The wall of the station building was decorated with mosaic art reminiscent of a cherry blossom blizzard.
It will be a pleasure to go see the cherry blossoms.

Kamijyo Café

It was almost noon, so we decided to have lunch first.

Along the old highway, there was an atmospheric café in a renovated building registered as a national tangible cultural property.
It is said to have been used as a soy sauce brewery at the end of the Edo period (1603-1867).

The pillars and beams inside the restaurant give you a sense of the atmosphere of those days.

We ordered a Margherita pizza and tomato cream pasta with shrimp. Both were delicious, with the flavors of the ingredients really coming through.

After dinner, we had “Sakura Latte”, which is only available in spring. It was a soothing taste with a soft aroma of cherry blossoms.

Ōroru Tojoya

After filling our stomachs, we stopped by a bakery that caught our attention.

Founded in 1931, the store boasts an 80-year history.

We picked up “bread basket,” one of their popular products.
Five palm-sized loaves of bread, including sausage rolls and chocolate coronets, are contained in a basket made of bread dough.
It makes a big impact and is perfect for a picnic!

Satte Gongendo Sakura Tutsumi (Prefectural Gongendo Park)

After putting the bread basket in the basket of the rental bicycle and riding about 2km, we came to a magnificent cherry blossom embankment.
Satte Gongendo Sakura Tsutsumi (cherry blossom embankment) is one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Satte city. About 1,000 cherry trees bloom along a 1km stretch.

A lot of cherry blossom lovers were visiting the park.
Bicycles are not permitted to ride in the park, so it is recommended to enjoy the scenery slowly by pushing and walking.
The contrast with the field of field mustard was also wonderful.

Also, visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers such as colorful hydrangeas in June, cluster amaryllis in September, and white narcissus in January.

cimai

While pottering around the town, we found a bakery with a long line of customers.
The bakery “cimai”(means sisters) is run by two sisters. The stylish exterior of the bakery caught our eyes.

“Fruit Bread” is a natural yeast bread with white figs, raisins, and iyokan peel. It was a little hard but tasted fresh and delicious.

“Caramel Cake” is a cake made with natural yeast. The moist dough has just the right amount of sweetness from the caramel.
The bread was made with the finest ingredients.

The street in front of the shop is called “Youkou-zakura Street” (sunlight cherry blossom street).
As the name suggests, there were early-blooming cherry trees called “Youkou-zakura” on the sidewalk.

Eibun Shoten

We stopped by Eibun Shoten, the long-established liquor store established in 1903.
The building is quaint and was remodeled after the Great Kanto Earthquake at the end of the Taisho era (1912-1926).

Just inside the building, you will find “Gongen-zakura”, a locally brewed sake.
People who enjoyed the cherry blossoms often buy it as a souvenir.

Pink-colored nigori (unrefined) sake. The pink color is made from red yeast and no artificial coloring is used.

We drank it after returning home and enjoyed its sweet taste, remembering the cherry blossoms. Drinking it with soda is also recommended, so you can enjoy it in various ways.

Next to the shop is a trolley used to bring in sake. It has been used for a long time.

We bought a “Trolley iron seal” as a souvenir.

Coffee Coco

A coffee break at the end of a cycling trip.

The coffee, carefully hand-dripped by the owner after receiving our order, was aromatic and mellow.

The couple runs the café, and we spent a peaceful time there.
