A trip to explore Hakuba Village with beautiful snowcaps in the Northern Alps by e-BIKE in December.

The cold and clear air is so pleasant this time of year.
I visited Hakuba Village in Nagano Prefecture, where the snow crown of the Northern Alps is beautiful. I’ve enjoyed the trip in Hakuba Village by e-BIKE.

1. Overview and Access to Hakuba Village

What do you think of when you hear about Hakuba Village in Nagano Prefecture? Most people probably ski. In addition to the snow season, Hakuba Village has many attractive spots for bicycle.
Approximately 1 hour 30-40 minutes by Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagano Station.

Afterwards, from the east exit of Nagano Station, take a limited express bus to Hakuba Village in an hour and 10 minutes.

2. Course

It is recommended for a trip by bicycle with just the right size. The course we introduce this time is also about 10km. Turn counterclockwise from Hakuba Station and go around the center of Hakuba Village. And The first half of this course is slightly upward, and the latter half is downward.
It takes 2-3 hours while bicycling included taking a break.

3. Cycling report

I started the trip from “Reposer Hakuba”, That is a bicycle support station and bike-friendly hotel.

On this day, The maximum temperature was 13°C and the minimum temperature was-2°C, but if you wear moderately, You can You can enjoy the ride comfortably. I started the ride before 10 o’clock.

I rented a bike that is e-BIKE “CRUISE” of Miyata.

First, I went down the street toward the station and go to Hakuba Station.

National Route 148, commonly known as Senkoku-kaido, goes northward by about 1km, and turns left at the Morikami intersection, which crossed the Matsukawa bridge.

After, Turn left the intersection that is in front of the fire department, and you will enter the Matsukawa River Road, which is about 2km away.
The snow-covered Northern Alps spreads more and more in front of you!

This river road is used by local people for walking and playing, and the road is spacious, so you can ride safely. On this day, there were families who practiced skateboard and paraglide.
The Matsukawa River Road is a loose upstream road, but it’s a e-BIKE, so it’s messy.

The Hakuba-Ohashi Bridge lies just across the river road. This is a famous place with a beautiful view of the Northern Alps.

It is good to take a picture from this bridge. And the riverside is also good for picture, You can aproach to riverside where you turned right and went down the gravel road after crossing the bridge.

Hakuba Village has more foreign residents and tourists, and it is also a favorite point that it is brimming with exoticism.

 

Next, I went to the ski jumping hill, a famous spot in Hakuba Village. Along the way, I pass through all the good-looking towns.

On the way, There is the Shimofurimiya Hosono Suwa-jinja Shrine. It has big tree, that is famous for its presumed 1,000-year-old Japanese cadar trees.

And this is the jumping hill where the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics actually took place.
It’s expensive anyway! It’s incredible to fly from there.

This point is 7km of this course. After you enjoy the ski jamping hill, I went down to Reposer Hakuba. On the way, there are many paths.
It’s also the thrill of bicycling to ride as if you were exploring the way you wanted to go!

This is hot spring “Happo-no-yu”, famous for Hakuba Village. There is also a footbath, so even if it is cold in winter bicycling, it can be warmed up. The family looks very fun too.

Beyond there is also a Lion Cafe at the Cycle Station. If you feel tired, it’s nice to take a break here. Many foreigners also stopped in.

Go down along the Ohnarakawa River, which runs through Hakuba Village.Then there was a nice path.
If you ride on this road, you will be right beside the Hotel Hakuba. This is a spot where you can take beautiful pictures before this hotel as well.

So I enjoyed the central part of Hakuba Village for two hours and returned to Reposer Hakuba, the starting point. I had my bicycle left in the room.

4. Lunch and dinner in Hakuba Village

Reposer Hakuba also serves Italian lunch. The interior is very stylish!

I ordered “Pasta puttanesca” A tomato-based prostitute-style pasta with a salty and sour flavor. It’s so delicious!

By the way, dinner is also at Reposer Hakuba. I was able to enjoy delicious dishes using famous wines and local ingredients in Nagano.
